Vision is a blessing

Vision is one of the special senses of a human being. It is one of the greatest gifts by Almighty. Those who have lost this precious gift can only realise it's significance. But what's the benefit of such realisation after losing the eye-sight (if occurs due to negligence)!

We are really lucky to have a perfect vision from birth. However, in some unfortunate instances, our child might come to us bearing some visual abnormalities. It brings a great tragedy to the parents and the family. But early recognition and timely intervention may the vision of a child. So, when should concerned parents seek doctors advice regarding their child's visual problem?

The appearance of the problems
By the 6 weeks, if the baby's eyes do not fix on mother's face during breastfeeding, parents can suspect that something is wrong.

A child older than 6 weeks and when he/she is awake and happy, his/her one or both eyes wander about from one side of the eye socket to the other side. This is not a normal feature. If it isn't corrected in a few days, parents should consult a doctor.

Presence of a white spot in the pupil is a feature of visual abnormality. If a parent notices any white spot over the coloured centre portion of an eye, the child should be taken to a doctor.

A child holds an object close to the eyes while trying to look at them. Parents should observe their child regularly. If a child does it all the time, they should take their child to a specialist.

Having apparent squint in one or both eyes in a child older than 6 months. Parents can easily notice this abnormality. They should see a doctor without any further delay.
