Change is sometimes inevitable. Whether we like it or not, change is part of our lives, and we have to learn to live with it. Whether it is in a work situation or in a personal capacity, changing the way we do things are not always easy but sometimes a necessity.
We are so set in our ways that it is difficult to even imagine how to suddenly do something differently. We get scared when things change because it is usually unexpected and sometimes the results can be devastating. Overall, change can be a horrifying experience if you are not prepared for it.
Think about the following questions:
1. What will happen if your support system suddenly crumbles and there is no one to support you anymore?
2. What if you lose your job now?
3. Do you have a backup plan?
4. What if a loved one dies? Sad but true and your life must continue.
These thoughts are very scary and not something that we even want to think about. Life is sometimes just unfair, and things can change in a matter of minutes. Life is tricky. One day you are on top of the world, and the next day you are lost and don’t know which way to go.
The only way to embrace change is to be prepared. There has been a heightened interest in the specific subject. Change management is an actual thing now, and there are various principles that we have to consider becoming more literate in the ways of change.
If there is one thing that most of us have in common is that built-in resistance to change. Plenty of research has been done about human behavior and humans tend to follow predictable patterns.
If you are not resistant to change, and you are familiar with the ways change affects people, you can increase your own emotional intelligence.
My next few posts will be about embracing change and finding ways to educate people about change and the effects of change. We should all be prepared for what is to come and for those unexpected changes that can change our lives in minutes.
