Good morning family and happy Saturday to us all.

Absorption is one of the important pharmacokinetic ( ie the effects of the body on the drug) properties of drugs. Before a drug is distributed in the body, it must first be absorb. Apart from drugs given through the vein that goes directly into the blood, every other forms of drug would first undergo absorption. To also add, before other forms of drugs can be absorb, it must first go into dissolution ( ie go into solution).

Itraconazole and ketoconazole are anti fungal medications that belongs to the class of that are effective against most fungal diseases.

The dissolution and absorption of the both drugs is dependent on the pH of the stomach. They are best dissolve in acidic medium ie low pH. Hence, when taking such drugs, it's advisable to take to take them with fruit drinks or juice ; this is because fruit drinks or juice are acidic in nature.

In same vain, medications that can reduce the level of acidity of the gastric fluid such as antacids, proton pump inhibitors(e.g omeprazole, rabiprazole, esomeprazole, etc), H2 receptor antagonist (such as cimentidine, ranitidine, etc), should not be taken same time with these drugs because if they are taken together, it would lead to poor absorption which may lead to therapeutic failure.
