we need to CONTINUE using the evidence-proven measures that protect us from Covid-19

Lots of reports of Covid-19 reinfection. No need to panic. These situations still seem to be the exception rather than the rule. We may be over-reading these cases because for the first time in history, we have the tools to conveniently detect and sequence viral infections. This may also happen with other viruses but we haven't documented it as much because we haven't looked as closely as we have with SARS-CoV-2.

There is robust evidence that effective immunity develops in most people. However, we do not know how long it lasts. This is also affected by less scrutinized T-cell responses which are harder to measure than antibodies.

Bottom line is that Covid-19 continues to give up its secrets, and we need to adjust our strategies accordingly. Temporary natural immunity might be reinforced with vaccine boosters and so even people who have gotten Covid-19 once MAY still benefit from vaccination when we get a safe and effective vaccine. The pause in the J&J vaccine trials is similar to the pause in the Astra trials and will hopefully just be temporary.

In the meantime, we need to CONTINUE using the evidence-proven measures that protect us from Covid-19. Assume EVERYONE is infectious and assume NO ONE is immune (unlike what a certain US President is doing). Keep using those masks and faceshields and keep physical distance. Even if you have successfully recovered from Covid-19, remember that antibody levels drop, and with these reports of reinfection there is no reason to be careless. Stay safe and stay tuned for the latest developments.

Exactly! And, always assume EVERYONE is guilty and assume NO ONE is innocent. You MUST prove you are innocent and healthy otherwise .... (fill in the blanks)!
