In simple terms, Tooth decay happens when the tooth structure is degraded thus leading to the development of cavities. There are several things I do to take care of my teeth and prevent tooth decay. Here are some of the helpful tips which I would like to share with you.

BRUSHING THE RIGHT WAY AND FLOSSING.

Ordinarily, brushing one’s tooth looks way too easy (smiles). However, there is a technique to it. If you want to get or maintain a healthy teeth, then you have to start paying attention to how you brush and how often you brush. Brushing the correct way implies that the brush will be held at angle where it is able to clean the teeth adequately without wounding the gums. All surfaces of the teeth should be properly brushed and in doing this the proper bush size must be selected.
DON'T FORGET FLOSSING.

Flossing simply means the act of removing the food pieces stuck in between the teeth. Brushing properly also includes Flossing. Flossing can also take place independent of brushing and should also be done properly to avoid damaging the teeth or gums. When done correctly flossing helps to limit bacteria activity and the development of plaques.

USE FLUORIDE-CONTAINING TOOTHPASTE:

several toothpaste products come with fluorine as an active ingredient. Generally, Fluorine is known to prevent tooth decay and strengthen the tooth enamel. But have you ever stopped to consider how this is accomplished? Well, here is how it works. Tooth decay in the form of dental caries results from decalcification of hard teeth by organic acids released from bacteria. The presence of fluoride inhibits the normal activity of the bacteria. It also integrates to the tooth surface structure forming fluorapatite, which limits decalcification.

BRUSHING AT NIGHT BEFORE SLEEP HELPS ALOT

There is no doubt that this routine works. Studies suggest brushing at night helps to prevent plaques or tooth decay, usually because it cleans out tiny bits of food that bacteria could act on. Additionally, chemical in the paste – fluoride helps forestall bacteria activity on the teeth overnight.

USING A MOUTHWASH/SPRAY/FRESHENER INTERMITTENTLY.

This also helps to maintain a heathy tooth in addition to providing a good breath. If you have a tooth ache or noticed some decay. A good mouth wash can help reduce further decay. It is also advisable to use mouth wash intermittently after meals to eliminate the burden of having to brush. So going forward, in case you haven’t done that already, add some mouthwash/spray to your teeth care routine.

EATING FINE AND AVOIDING HIGHLY SUGARY FOODS.

According to the American Dental Association, eating well – that’s a good balanced diet and less of highly refined sugary foods helps one realise and maintain a healthy teeth and oral hygiene. This is very true because your teeth need a healthy supply of nutrients and minerals like calcium to form its structure and prevent degradation. Additionally, highly refined sugary foods tend to support bacteria activity overtime as bacteria use sugars to form acids that damage the teeth structure (enamel).

So, I believe with these few tips we can all achieve and maintain healthy teeth especially in view of living to a ripe active old age.
