NON-STOP RAINFALL IN THE LAST THREE DAYS

Experience is truly the best teacher. It will be right to say that I have learnt the hard way, for real. For some weeks that rain have began I have always been making comments about the lack of intensity of the downpour. I have always been opportune to be indoor when the rain is falling, so I feel it is not that serious.

But, the story changed in the last two days as a result of the continuous rainfall that take almost the whole day. I woke up to a heavy rainfall yesterday which made me go to church late. It wasn't that heavy but I could feel the strokes on my back as I sat on the motorcycle. I would have used my umbrella to cover up on motorcycle but the wind will damage the umbrella. It was the same experience when I was returning home after church.

The rain will stop for some minutes and before you know it will start again. If you want the rain to stop totally before you head out because you don't want to get wet, then you may not do anything throughout the day. I got home completely dripping of water from head to toe and I was also shivering. In short, I didn't feel myself throughout yesterday. I felt sick to the extent that I couldn't eat my lunch.

It rained from yesterday till this moment that I'm typing this post at 2.31PM and it is possible that it will rain throughout the day. It was not easy to get out of bed this morning, I wished it was a Saturday morning and it would have been a great time in bed till later in the day. Unfortunately, it is Monday so I had to heat water to shower and get ready for work. I left the house at about some minutes past 8AM - walking as careful enough not to mess my shoes and skirt up with splashes of muddy water on the road.

Getting cab to the office is another stressful situation that took quite a number of minutes. It was as though everyone hit the streets at the same time, the demand for cab was higher than the supply. It was a case of the survival of the fittest. This is a normal scenario when it rains around here because passengers will come out at once when the rain subsides and we'd all try to use the few available cabs.

The major point I'm trying to make is that I have been underestimating the impact of this year's rainfall because I have always been indoor when it is raining. I feel because it does not come with a lot of sound or breeze, it wasn't heavy but with just few strokes of the rain on my head and back, my doubts were cleared.

It seems as if the non-stop rain is a general thing in some states in Nigeria in the last three days. I spoke to my family members in other states and they confirmed that it has been raining for like three days back-to-back. We hope the rain will not cause flood in people's homes and business areas because once the drainages are filled up it may begin to cause havoc to people most especially in areas where do not have any drainage system
