- The Titanosaurs were a group of large sauropod dinosaurs, making up the larger class ( Titanosauriformes). They were earlier discovered in the dinosaur history in 1877. They lived around 65 - 80 million years ago.
They were the heaviest creatures to ever walk on earth ( the Titanosaurs) . These Titanosaurs includes the saltasarus, the isisaurus, the Argentinosaurus, the Paralititandinosaurs. They were the largest land animals known to have ever existed .
An example is the Patagonian dinosaurs which were about 121 ft long, and having a weight of about 76 tons. They were dominant in their time.
These dinosaurs were widespread, having their fossils found in all continents. The largest were about 130ft long and 35ft tall.
These dinosaurs were high browsers, meaning that they feed from tall trees and grasses, while some were low browsers, meaning that they feed on lower vegetations. These high browsers can feed on leaves and branches of tall trees, cycads, conifers, palm trees and poaceae as well as rice and bamboo. The low browsers only feed on lower vegetations like grasses and shrubs .
*High browsers*
Lower browsers cannot feed on tall trees because of their size and height unlike the high browsers which can feed on both lower and higher vegetations .
The Saltasarus dinosaurs dig holes with their back feet to lay eggs in cluches at the average of about 25 eggs each. They bury the nests under vegetations and dirts. The small eggs are about 11 - 12 cm.
These Titanosaur dinosaurs have short thick legs, massive trunk and rows of bony plates on the back. They are the last Sauropods to roam the earth before the extinction which occurred about 65 million years ago.
