Seasons greetings to you. My name is @chibuzorwisdom writing for #blurtconnect. Today I will be educating our new members on the usage of the different blurt passwords made available to them after signups.
This is because we have received series of complaints about password misplacement, mismanagement and loss.
Basic security on blurt has to do with understanding how well to safe guard you account unique keys from unknown users and cyber hackers.
BLURT SECURITY KEYS
I know most of us are perplexed at the number of words that made up our password.
You need not to worry about that,rather you should feel comfortable with the thought of how to keep it safe.
The Keys that are made available to you after signup include:
- Master password
- Posting Key
- Active Key
- Owner Key
- Memo Key
You are to store/save the above keys in various storage units such as;
- Hard copy
- Google drive
- Google spreadsheet and
- Clipboard
FUNCTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS OF BLURT KEYS
Each key has is specific functions unique to it. A key cannot double serve as a posting key and as a wallet key. The specific functions and restrictions of the various keys are as follows;
Posting Key
This key is used to post write-ups, comment on other people's post, edit already posted blogs, vote posts, reblurt posts, and follow or mute other accounts when necessary.
Active key
This a wallet related key meant for transferring funds to other accounts, power up or power down blurt and vice versa, voting for witnesses in the blockchain, updating profile details and pictures.
Owner key
This specific key is only used when and where necessary. It is a very important key because it can be used to change any of the keys of an account, including it's own key. It should be guarded well and should never be compromised.
Memo key
The memo key is used send encrypting and decrypting memos or messages when transferring funds. In order to encrypt a memo, use the /# sign before it.
MASTER PASSWORD
It is worthy to note that Master password or key exists and it has long characters like the other keys. It is the first password given to you as a new user when your account is created and it is very important too.
This master password is used to generate all the other keys. When going through account recovery process this key is used. It should be stored safely because it is your second line of defense when trying to recover a stolen or hijacked account.
