Travelers may still remember the story of Watubelah Hamlet in Kulon Progo, which is nicknamed Kampung Mati. Yes, the village did leave only one family while the other residents chose to move. The reason is because the location of the village is difficult to reach.

The latest news, the last family living there will be moving soon. This was revealed by the representative of Dukuh Watubelah, Gunawan.

"For the latest information, Mr. Sumiran has just focused on moving houses to the west, which yesterday received house renovations from BSPS. So if Mr. Sumiran later fixes moving houses, automatically in that village (Kampung Mati) there will no longer be residents," explained, Friday (28/7/2023).

Gunawan explained that the process of moving the Sumiran family from Kampung Mati to another place is likely to be carried out in the near future. The family has also received assistance from the community for the construction of infrastructure to support new housing.

"(Moving) Mr. Sumiran's family has been in progress. Yesterday from vlogger friends there were donations from netizens who really had a mission for Mr. Sumiran. So, the new house has been ready to be occupied since 2020 yesterday, but only now is the bathroom being built. from netizens' donations," he said.

There are a number of reasons that make residents leave Kampung Mati. One of them is because they are embarrassed by the condition of the isolated village.

"Because it's far from a road that can be accessed by vehicles. You have to walk 1.5 to 2 km first. So many have moved," said Sugiati when met by detikJogja, last Friday (16/6/2023).

"The last residents to move were about 4 years ago. So, since these 4 years we have been alone," he added.

Kampung Mati is indeed in a remote area. The location is far from public facilities such as markets, clinics and government offices. Even so with the nearest residential area, which can be up to 2 km away.

There is only one way to get to this village, namely by walking along the hills. The track taken is rocky ground and with a slope of up to 70 degrees. This condition makes it impossible for vehicles to pass, even bicycles.

"When it's rainy season it's even more dangerous. Apart from being slippery, sometimes there are rocks that suddenly fall. So you really have to be careful if you want to come here," said Sugiati.
