When I first came to Thailand I use to notice on the beaches at low tide many Thai people out there with there buckets and spade digging into the sand and I was always curious what were they doing out there what were they hunting down then I learnt what they were actually doing out there collecting baby crabs in bucket loads these baby crabs had no chance of surviving to see better days it was a massacre for them ending up in a brutal slaughter.
What I mean by a brutal slaughter is these baby crabs would be taken back to wholesalers fish markets where they would be bought by street vendors and restaurant owners and finally end up in the Thai national dish called "Som Tam" this dish is eaten by just about every Thai person in Thailand, it's one of the most spiciest dishes out there so you can imagine what a brutal death these live baby crabs would go through when thrown into this dish mixed with about 10 crushed up red hot chili's, fish oil sauce and more chili sauce mixed with shredded unripe papaya, sliced tomatoes, raw yardlong beans and dried mini shrimp the baby crabs are thrown in live but don't stand a chance amongst that mix the baby crabs end up been marinated in this mix up spicy dish and are then eaten as a whole the Thai's adore this dish, it's the most eaten dish in Thailand you will find it's eaten in every household.
Although this Som Tam dish is mainly eaten with fresh baby crabs some Thai's prefer the larger crabs.
Lovely post ! Thailand is a beautiful country and love to visit there one day . If blurt reaches 0.1$ will defiantly 😊
