MY FAVOURITE DANCE

Good evening fellow blurtians, today I would be participating on a @blurtchallenge, this time I would be telling you all about my favourite dance.

My favourite dance is called "the Igbo cultural dance",this dance is from the Igbo Ethnic group of Nigeria, growing up as a little girl,I had always loved and admired this particular dance, especially when we had cultural days in school where everyone had to showcase their culture ranging from their outfits, food and dance.

As an Igbo girl I was part of the Igbo cultural dance group, we would usually take out days to rehearse and prepare for our performance,it was usually a beautiful time everyone in school look forth to.

The Igbo cultural dance is a native community dance done by the Igbo at any cultural events, this dance involves rigourous movement of the body and sometimes involves acrobatics.

It's a unique dance, which sometimes differs in the different 5 Igbo States, different lands could decide to add different costumes and some twists to the dance but generally it's the same thing.

The Igbo cultural dance it's mostly done during new yam festivals, traditional marriages, Chieftaincy titles, coronations and child dedications etc.

The uniqueness of the dance comes when everyone gathers today just to watch the dancers perform and cheers them up,this dance is usually done with the Igbo cultural songs, most of these songs have been in existence since the days of our fathers and fore-fathers,they are usually played with local flutes, drums, etc.

The dance comes with so much energy and excitement,it's not difficult to learn because most times out of excitement you find yourself even dancing more than you have ever imagined because basically it deals more with movement of your body and then for the ladies they will have to bend down to shake their waist as they smile dancing.

This dance is mostly done with traditional outfits, the boys/men can tie wrapper on their waist with singlet and beads on the neck or some can just wear a full wrapper, while the women/girls also tie wrapper on their waist with one up that is tied to cover their chest, sometimes it could be tied in form of a bra, they usually wear beads on the neck, waist and legs and then can also beautify themselves with what we call "nzu" in Igbo,it's a white substance gotten from clay,it is known as White Kaolin or calabash chalk in English, this "nzu" symbolises Peace, Wisdom,Purity and clean heart in the Igbo land,it is also good to note that this dance is done on bare foot

The Igbo cultural dance is a beautiful dance to watch, the last cultural dance I witnessed was the one held recently in my children's school, and it was so beautiful to see these little kids attempt the Igbo cultural dance,if these little ones can perform like this, you can imagine how adult performance would be like.

Thank you so very much for dropping by,I hope you learnt something, see you next time,am inviting @zyzymena to participate in this challenge.
