Being an artist in some parts of the world could be one of the toughest life decisions some of us have made. Besides the stigma that comes with being an artist in developing countries, stability is something most artists struggle with; financial stability most expecially.
Web 3 however has given a great number of artists and creators the opportunity to spread their wings, have a much bigger audience and be much more successful from doing the things they love. However, we still have a long way to go as Web 3 itself, particularly the NFT space is still plagued with nepotism and favoritism. Hardwork and passion aren't taken into consideration but whose art will fetch me more money and fame. This has made so many people i know give up on creating art and even made some of us question why we were artists in the first place.
So what keeps you going as an artist? For me, I no longer look at the financial aspects of creating. I started creating art for the love of it and to express my deepest emotions and feelings. I didn't start creating art to sell to the highest bidders. I'm thankful I got to the stage where my works were recognised internationally but what has kept me going even when thing got tough is the mindset that my creations are manifestations of my skill, talent and hardwork. I also feel motivated by people who resonates with my works and recognises my effort.
It's really not about the money for an artist as a quick trip down history of artists would show financial success wasn't a thing for artists. But knowing that your name will forever be written in gold and your works will be in existences and showcased long after we're gone is enough reason to keeps going.
