Talking about historical figures, we cannot forget a cleric from Aceh, Habib Abdurrahman Bin Alwi Al Habsyi or Habib Bugak Asyi who is known as a philanthropist. In 1809 AD, he along with several merchants from Aceh bought and donated a plot of land or what is known as "Baitul Asyi" (Aceh House) in Mecca, precisely between Bukit Marwa and the Grand Mosque.

According to the deed of waqf pledge which was kept well by Nadzir, the waqf was pledged by Habib Bugak Asyi in 1222 Hijriyah before a judge at the Mecca Syar'iyah Court. It is stated that this piece of land is a waqf for people who come from Aceh to perform the pilgrimage, as well as Acehnese living in Mecca.

If for some reason there are no more Acehnese who come to Mecca to perform the pilgrimage, then this waqf house is used as a residence for Jawi students (students, students) Jawi (archipelago) who study in Mecca, and if there are no more students In Mecca, this waqf house is used as a residence for Meccan students who study at the Grand Mosque. Then if they are not there, then this waqf is handed over to the Imam of the Grand Mosque to finance the needs of the Grand Mosque.

Habib Bugak has appointed Nadzir (manager) a cleric from Aceh who has settled in Mecca. Nadzir is granted rights according to Islamic sharia guidelines. In 1420 H (1999 AD) the Syar'iyah Court of Mecca confirmed Sheikh Abdul Ghani bin Mahmud Bin Abdul Ghani Asyi (the fourth generation waqf manager) as the new Nadzir.

When there was an expansion project for the Grand Mosque, the land that was donated by Habib Bugak Asyi was also affected. Instead, the land was purchased and received compensation in the form of a plot of land in another area around the Grand Mosque.

The developer then builds a hotel on waqf land and manages it professionally. Every hajj season, Acehnese hajj pilgrims will get a share of the waqf proceeds. In 2019, there were 4,688 pilgrims from Aceh who each received 1,200 Saudi Arabian riyals or IDR 4,800,000 and a copy of the Koran.

Currently the "Baitul Asyi" waqf includes several productive assets, namely:

  1. Elaf Masyaer Hotel. A five-star hotel with a capacity of 650 rooms, located in the Ajiyad Mushafi area, about 250 meters from the Grand Mosque.

  2. Ramada Hotel. A five-star hotel with a capacity of 1,800 rooms, located in the Ajiyad Mushafi area, about 300 meters from the Grand Mosque.

  3. Habib Bugak Asyi Waqf Hotel in Aziziah. Can accommodate 750 worshipers, it is erected on a land area of 800 square meters.

  4. 900 meters of land and buildings in Aziziah. Used as the Habib Bugak Asyi Waqf Office in Mecca.

  5. The building in the Syaikiyah area was purchased in 2017 by Naazir Waqf Baitul Asyi for 6 million Riyals. This building is used as a residence for Acehnese Saudi Arabian descent and Acehnese living in Saudi Arabia for free, without time limit.

With a little charity, there are many benefits that benefit mankind. In the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, "When Adam's children and grandchildren die, all their deeds are cut off except for three things, alms jariah, useful knowledge, and the prayer of a pious child," (HR. Muslim no. 1631).
