A series of murals along 14th Street on a concrete railroad retaining wall showcases local Chicago icons. There are some that are famous and infamous in the Chicago region, and a few notable but lesser-known locals featured.
Al Capone
was one of the most famous American gangsters and leader of the Chicago Outfit. He was imprisoned in Alcatraz for evading taxes on his 100 million dollar fortune and died in 1947 of complications from syphilis.
Richard M Daley,
elected mayor in 1989 and was reelected five times. The mural features the former mayor's face and the image of a city worker spraying over the mayor with brown paint.
Daley made clearing away graffiti a priority and would have city crews “blast” away tagging, graffiti and street art with high-pressure hoses or paint them over in brown. While Daley was mayor the City Council banned the retail sale of spray paint in Chicago in 1992 to deprive graffiti vandals of their weapons! People must drive to the suburbs to buy a can of spray paint.
MrT
is shown holding a Chicago hot dog.
"steamed poppy seed bun and an all-beef frankfurter. Then it's topped with yellow mustard, bright green relish, fresh chopped onions, juicy red tomato wedges, a kosher-style pickle spear, a couple of spicy sport peppers and finally, a dash of celery salt." *wikipedia
The only way to eat a hot dog! 😉
I had never heard of HH Holmes before I read Erik Larson 's book 'The Devil in the White City.'
The book is a true tale of the architect who designed the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and the serial killer who used the spectacal of the fair to lure his victims to their deathsl. HH Holmes was the alias used by the con artist and bigamist who was one of America's first serial killers. It is not known how many people he actually tortured and killed, but estimates are between 20 and 200. He was eventually apprehended and hanged.
Martin Scorsese’s TV adaptation of The Devil in the White City, with Leonardo DiCaprio aired on Hulu.
Another mural portrays DJ King Marie, who besides being a DJ is also a model and is active in the Filipino American community around Chicago.
"All I know is that I want to make people dance and vibe. - DJ King Marie
Muddy Waters- Known as the father of modern Chicago blues.

I am working to onboard my son's Sim racing league to Hive. Ecency is going to be a race sponsor and if everything works out they will have the logo on their race cars and on their trophies. We are putting together a 30-second ad that they can play before the race for Ecency. They broadcast their races live with commentators and we are starting a racing community where they can post race summaries, track reports and product reviews. Getting it all coordinated is keeping me busy! Fingers crossed it all works out! I haven't been here as much as I would like to be.
Nice! I like that these murals are attractive, neat and bold. 🙂
Thanks so much for commenting! ♥️
Graffiti is a wonderful way of expressing freedom. Every picture made is full of moral messages and social criticism. The colorful pictures made in several corners of the city will also give its own beauty. Works like this, in my country today are often questioned, even security officers often hunt down those who criticize the government through graffiti art.
