Greetings Everyone.
Bloggers, welcome to my blog, today we will be looking at freedom of speech, sometime ago during high school, we were taught that it is our right to speak up, but in our society today speaking up puts your life at risk.
Freedom Of Speech simply refers to the right every citizen or individual gets to express oneself, Freedom Of Speech allows individuals to openly express their feeling without been punished for doing so.
On this side of the world things are completely different, freedom of speech is only found in our constitution and not on the streets of Nigeria, on the streets of Nigeria you don't reserve the right to speak even when your right is been taking away, even when you are been intimidated, oppressed, you dare not talk unless you want to loose your life in the process, therefore all you can do is cry and pray, it's funny how things turned out to be.
It is no longer a new story that speaking up in Nigeria means putting your life on the line, the country has deviated completely from what the Constitution says, what happens in the country is in the opposite direction of what was written in the Constitution, many who tried to speak up lost their lives in doing so and nobody else wants to be added to the list, not even me but for how long can we endure the intimidation and the oppression before we unintentionally speak up??
Many persons are scarred of speaking up for one reason or another, and they continue to suffer intimidation and the oppression that comes with not speaking up. Here are few reasons many people people fail to speak up;
Childhood Encounters: Many were raised by harsh parents or by step mom or dad and were always indoors, such a person cannot be outspoken as they suffer from the experience they had as a child.
Fear Of what comes up later: Like we have in the recent story about Deborah's gruesome murder, many fear to face such end and end up not saying anything.
Gender inequality: In some societies and religion women are not given the chance to express themselves, they believe women are meant for the kitchen, some churches still don't allow women to preach.
Nigerians must come together as one to put to a stop all these intimidation, especially from the military men that are supposed to be protecting us, the fight for our right is not a fight for one man but for all.
