Human being needs food to grow , survive , reproduce and maintain good health .
Without food how body cannot repair tissues , eating the right food can also help you avoid some certain disease or recover faster when illness occurs.
When we eat ,nutrition are released through digestion .
How does digestion occur
Digestion occurs from the mouth by the action of chewing and the chemical activity of saliva which is a watery fluid that contains enzymes which helps to break down the food.
Important of water
A person can survive eight to ten days without water whereas it takes weeks or even month to die from lack of food.
Water circulate through our blood and lymphatic system transporting oxygen and nutrients to cell and removing waste through urine and sweat.
Water also maintain the natural balance between dissolved salt and water inside and outside of the cell.
The woman body is 65% water and it takes an average of eight to ten cup to replenish the water our body loses each day.
Water is replenished by drinking liquid preferably without caffeine or alcohol both of which increase the output of urine and dehydrate the body
Many food are also a good source of food such as fruits, vegetables for instance are 80-90% of water , meat are made up of 50% of water and grains such as oat and rice can have as much as 35%of water.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the human body source of energy providing 4calories of energy per gram. When carbohydrates are broken down by the body , glucose is produced . Glucose is critical to help maintain tissue protein , metabolize fat and fuel the central nervous system .
Protein
Dietary protein are powerful compounds that build and repair the body tissue , from hair, fingernails, to muscles.
Protein speeds up chemical reactions in the body , it serves as chemical messenger , fight infection, transport oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissue
Fats
Fats provides 9 calories of energy per gram. They are the most concentrated of the energy producing nutrient, so our body needs only small amount. Fats play an important role in building the membranes that surrounds our cell and in helping the blood to clot.
Fats contain fatty acid attached to a substance called glycerol
Vitamins and minerals
Both are needed by the body in very small amount to trigger thousands of chemical reactions necessary to maintain good health
Conclusion
When the body is not given enough of all the necessary essential nutrients over a period of time, the body becomes weak and unable to fight infection. The brain may become sluggish and react slowly . So therefore make make good nutritional choices
