Some things you need to know about rearing of guinea pigs

Greetings my fello blurtians of furfriends, Today i am going to share with you the tips on how to rear a guinea pig.

Some people may be wondering what guinea pigs are;
Guinea pigs are animals smaller than rabbits.

They are used in laboratory experiments and for testing drugs in mammals.

(a) choice of guinea pigs for rearing
Healthy male (boar) and female (sow) guinea pigs that are strong should be purchased from a reliable animals rearers (breeders).

(b) Housing
They are raised in cages or hutches. The cages or hutches should be placed in a shed that is well ventilated. Feeders and drinkers similar to that of rabbit should be provided.

(c) Feeding materials
The feeding materials are Tridax, pigeon pea, elephant grass, Bahama grass and sweet potato. All these can be used in feeding them, but the sweet potato should be in moderate quantity. The sweet potato can be mixed with any of the other feeds.

(d) Disease control
The guinea pigs house should be clean all the time to prevent outbreak of disease.
When disease attack occurs, a veterinary doctor should be consulted.

Apart from the options mentioned above guinea pigs also make great pets
