Tribal Life: Time to Pick the Chilies!

in blurt •  2 years ago  (edited)

Here at my girlfriend @junglegirl's Lua Hill Tribe in Northern Thailand they love their spicy food. As you may imagine these people are not going to any local markets to buy anything except on rare occasion. The solution is always just grow it yourself! In fact more often then not they would be going to the market to sell things.

I find it almost ironic as the trend of growing your own food is beginning to sweep through the western world as inflation rises...meanwhile the tribe has been at it all along! Literally for generations. When I asked Jungle Girl's uncle how long the tribe has been around, he said he doesn't know, but they all assume it's many thousands of years. Which does make sense.

Historically it's known that the Lua Tribe was once the royal force occupying the historic city of Chiang Mai 700 years ago. Due to war the Lua people retreated and re-settled in the mountains to the west of the city, where they have numerous settlements "tribes" bringing us to present day.

Any way this post is supposed to be about Chilies and how part of everyday life is not opening up the fridge, but instead going down to the field to pick fresh what you need to make your meal. You can imagine here in Thailand, these people like much of their food hot and spicy! The Chilies you see here, if not careful will blow your head off!

Personally I love spicy food, and the traditional tribe food is spicy as f%$k, but excellent too! What about you, can you take the heat? Are you too plucking chilies from a bush in front of your home? Let us know in the comments and until next time, Blurt-on!

THANK YOU

I love chili, in fact I grow it at home, because it is a very noble plant and grows easily in warm areas. The chili is not lacking in my meals, not always spicy, because here we have a type of sweet chili, which we call ají criollo, and the hot chili is a chili 6 times larger than the one you show in your photo. Although we also have this little one, which is the spiciest of all and here we call it chirel pepper.
I wish everyone would join in growing their own food and live the wonderful experience of bringing food from the garden to your table.
Good vibes.😜

Hey there @angelica7!

Chilis make the spicy world go round! Thank you so much for taking the time to add to this post. Really appreciate that. I would love to try the chilies where you from. They sound big, spicy, and delicious!

Thanks again, and have a great day!

We do this a lot in Lagos. We pluck chillies from our backyard and make some local dishes with them. Our foods are very spicy and it is one of the most spicy foods in the world

I love spicy food. I would certainly give whatever you are making a try!

Nice pics bro! I think you may have a duplicate?
When we order Thai in Canada, we get it "medium spicy". I think it goes mild, medium, spicy, and extra spicy. So if I was in Thailand ordering food, I would likely order it "mild spicy"... and that would probably have enough kick for me. MedIKatie likes it milder, so probably "very mild" in Thailand :P

Woops. Wish I saw that before, yes a duplicate. But thanks. In Thailand, they are pretty good with the western pallet especially in the more tourested places. But even some times you say "little spicy", it can still be over the top for some people. I always order my food regular here, and I have jungle girl tell them just to make how they do for the Thais. Then a lot of the time they are all impressed that the white guy can handle the heat! hahaha

Niiiiice! You like it hottt.
As for the duplicate, it was hard to tell if it really was, or if they were just very similar. Like one of those "spot the 8 differences" puzzles. I kept looking back, and forth, back, and forth... finally I had to ask LOL
