There is time for everything in life and the earlier you realize the better. There is time for preparing the land for the planting season, there is time for sowing and there is time for harvest. A farmer cannot plant yam and expect a harvest of cucumber. It is what you sow that you shall reap. Likewise, two different farmers can sow yam and have different results. That is, the amount of harvest of one may differ from that of the other person. The outcome may be due to some factors such as the quality of the soil, the type of seed that was planted, the maintenance of the crops throughout the planting season such as fumigation, weeding, watering etc.
The way we experience life is also similar to the routine of a farmer. There are lots of decisions, and actions that you took in the past that is responsible for your present status or condition in life. Well, there is no doubt that life happens sometimes but there is a great chance that the actions and decisions that you have made also contribute immensely to the type of outcome you get in life.
Let's take for example, a student that resumed school for a fresh semester who did not attend lectures for several weeks and during the preparation for examinations he has no books to read. Will there be any need to start looking for the cause of this students failure when the examination results are released? The reason for his failure is obvious and that is the fact that he didn't plan for a bountiful harvest in his academics by carrying out the right thing.
There are many factors that contribute to having a "bountiful harvest" in your career, academics, relationships, finances and in your life as a whole.
These factors include:
- What you do
- How you do the things you do (Methodology)
- When you do the things you do (Time)
- Where you do the things you do (Place)
All these factors contribute to the quality of results that you get in your life. You must start off by doing the right thing that is in line with achieving your goals in life. Distractions can be a deterrent to staying focus on the right things in your life. Therefore, you must get rid of every form of distractions that will hinder you from staying focus. Afterwards, you must map out a plan on how you intend to work on what you want to do. The methods you decide to use must be effective enough to give you the intended result.
Furthermore, you need to ask yourself if you are doing the right thing at the right time. Most people have issues of battling with misplaced priorities. If you fail to do the right thing at the right time you will not get a good result. For instance, using a farmer as an example, a farmer that does not plant at the right time or weed his crops as at when due should not expect the same result with the person who did all that. Timing is important in achieving success.
I'm always afraid of wasting my time the moment I remember that anything that I do with my time will reflect in my life. Time is life and whatever you do with your life, you're doing with your life. Charles Darwin once said that "a man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life." The day you realize that the way you use your time is a reflection of your life, then you will see the need not to waste a single second.
Now, do you think you can have a bountiful harvest in your career, academics, relationship and life in general with the type of seed you are sowing? Are you sowing the right seeds at the right time?
Never leave ’till tomorrow which you can do today.
