It has been raining nonstop for days here in Steung Kach, not exactly the best conditions for woodworking or concrete pouring.
At Least The Basin Is Full 🚰
In the above photo you can see a hose dangling above the water basin in the outside bathroom. This hose is connected to the gutter of the tiny roof, but with the amount of rain we get here, it actually fills up quite quickly.
Pumping water from the river is difficult because the water tank above the cabin is too high for the pump's capacity, so either way all water must reach the bathroom basin before going elsewhere.
Repurposing The Highway Shack 🪚
As I mentioned (I think) in a previous post, the 2-man construction team here is my wife's uncle-in-law and her brother, and these guys are working when the weather allows. I decided to offer up the walls of the highway shack as a cost-cutting measure, so they've been sorting the planks by quality.
🪵 Operation Veranda 📐
Perhaps a hammock hut by the river can be constructed with the scraps not used to finish up the cabin. Work has begun on creating a stepdown veranda on the river's side of the house. I am having the roof extended to cover the veranda, and we all like the idea of an outdoor kitchen here too.
The view is the best part, and I can't believe the previous never thought to take advantage of this. You can see the steep drop to the river. If we have enough HBD, I'd like to create a staircase going down a mini hammock hut at the river's edge.
The main thing is we need the rain to stop and I need the price of HIVE to go up, otherwise this will be a solely HBD-funded construction project. My wife and I's daily HIVE earnings match the daily cost of keeping these guys around, so we've kind of worked out to give them all the HBD we earn while they're here, plus give them a stipend so the fam-struction crew don't spend any of their earnings until they leave Steung Kach.
