Initially, Garut Regency was nicknamed Swiss Van Java because of its mountainous landscape which is similar to the Swiss mountains. Switzerland itself is famous for its beautiful natural tourist destinations in Europe. This picturesque city is the meeting point of the Western and Eastern Alps that pass through Italy, France and the Eastern Alps. In fact, because of the natural beauty of the Garut mountains, this beauty was immortalized by Ahmad Abdullah Assegaf in his novel entitled Fafat Garoet. The novel was written in 1928. Garut is surrounded by many mountains, from Papandayan, Guntur, to Cikuray. All three are favorite destinations for mountaineers and nature lovers.
