What is an Airdrop?

Historically in real-life scenarios, airdrop is the mode of delivering supplies such as weapons, equipment, food, humanitarian aid etc. by means of an airlift using aircraft to inaccessible areas and dropping the items by parachute. It has the same purpose as the airdrops we heard about cryptocurrency, to drop something to someone. Crypto airdrop is a distribution of the project’s token to its community that has complied the required tasks.

Históricamente en escenarios de la vida real, el lanzamiento aéreo es el modo de entrega de suministros tales como armas, equipos, alimentos, ayuda humanitaria, etc. por medio de un puente aéreo utilizando aviones a zonas inaccesibles y dejando caer los artículos en paracaídas. Tiene el mismo propósito que los lanzamientos aéreos de criptodivisas, lanzar algo a alguien. Crypto airdrop es una distribución del token del proyecto a su comunidad que ha cumplido con las tareas requeridas.

Why there is an Airdrop?

You might wonder if crypto airdrop is kind of legit or a scam and why is that they are giving free tokens. Logically, just the same as the traditional business, if you have created a new product you must have to promote it so people will know what they are buying. That’s exactly the same as the crypto airdrop, mostly new crypto projects are offering airdrops to their community/users. It’s their way of promoting their token and increasing its value. The main target of promoting their project is the investors. The more investors the stronger the community and with considerable token value, of course depending on its use case and tokenomics in general.

Puede que te preguntes si crypto airdrop es legal o una estafa y por qué están dando tokens gratis. Lógicamente, al igual que en los negocios tradicionales, si has creado un nuevo producto tienes que promocionarlo para que la gente sepa lo que está comprando. Eso es exactamente lo mismo que el airdrop criptográfico, la mayoría de los nuevos proyectos criptográficos están ofreciendo airdrops a su comunidad/usuarios. Es su forma de promocionar su token y aumentar su valor. El principal objetivo de la promoción de su proyecto son los inversores. Cuantos más inversores, más fuerte será la comunidad y mayor el valor del token, por supuesto dependiendo de su caso de uso y de la tokenómica en general.

Is an airdrop worth joining?

It depends, because along the way you will experience some fake airdrops. Since most are new projects, we cannot perfectly determine whether the new project is real or fake. Well, there are a lot of procedures to check if it is legit, that’s why there is the so-called DYOR (Do Your Own Research). Your friend Google is always there to assist you or you may ask the person who shared the airdrop (mostly we share it on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). In my case, I don’t usually ask the sharer, instead, I do my own research on how to join the airdrop because when he/she shared it, I considered it already as a gift and an opportunity. There is no harm in trying, if you are not eligible for the airdrop at least you tried but on the other hand if you are qualified then congrats on the free money. Sometimes airdrops are a life-changing opportunity, imagine from free to six or even seven-digit reward that’s not bad.

Depende, porque a lo largo del camino experimentarás algunos airdrops falsos. Como la mayoría son proyectos nuevos, no podemos determinar perfectamente si el nuevo proyecto es real o falso. Tu amigo Google siempre está ahí para ayudarte o puedes preguntar a la persona que compartió el lanzamiento aéreo (la mayoría de las veces lo compartimos en Facebook, Instagram y Twitter). En mi caso, no suelo preguntar al que lo compartió, sino que investigo por mi cuenta cómo unirme al lanzamiento aéreo porque cuando él/ella lo compartió, yo ya lo consideraba un regalo y una oportunidad. No pasa nada por intentarlo, si no cumples los requisitos al menos lo has intentado, pero si los cumples, enhorabuena por el dinero gratis. A veces los airdrops son una oportunidad que te cambia la vida, imagínate de gratis a una recompensa de seis o incluso siete cifras, no está nada mal.

How to receive an Airdrop?

There are tasks that need to be done to be eligible for an airdrop, basically registering for the project is the first step of course. Some projects require users to subscribe or follow their social accounts, mostly Twitter, Telegram, etc. There are projects that need your wallet to be connected, so when the airdrop is being distributed you will receive it directly to your connected wallet. We should be careful on this part since we are registering for a new project, it might compromise our wallet unless it is a legit project. The safest way is to create a secondary wallet for airdrop and keep your main wallet safe.

Hay tareas que hay que hacer para poder optar a un airdrop, básicamente registrarse en el proyecto es el primer paso por supuesto. Algunos proyectos requieren que los usuarios se suscriban o sigan sus cuentas sociales, principalmente Twitter, Telegram, etc. Hay proyectos que necesitan que tu monedero esté conectado, de forma que cuando se distribuya el airdrop lo recibirás directamente en tu monedero conectado. Debemos tener cuidado en esta parte ya que al estar registrándonos en un nuevo proyecto, puede comprometer nuestro monedero a no ser que sea un proyecto legítimo. Lo más seguro es crear un monedero secundario para los airdrops y mantener tu monedero principal a salvo.
