Last Sunday we piled the fam into the car and hit up Segara Beach down in Sanur. We weren't there for the sunrise this time, even though that beach is best for that. It had just been ages since we all felt the sand between our toes, you know? Plus, it was still a holiday vibe, so we weren't about to miss out on some beach time.
Actually, our first stop was supposed to be Sanur Beach. But whoa Nelly, the place was packed! Sunday afternoon at the beach, what can you expect, right? Not a single parking spot in sight. So, we decided to explore a bit and see what else was around.
Ina's initial sunshine smile evaporated faster than a sandcastle under a rogue wave. We pulled into the Sanur Beach parking lot, only to be met by a sea of cars, all vying for the same sliver of space. Her hopeful eyes scanned the rows, searching for a gap, but her spirit sank with each passing moment.
The beach, a promised land of sandcastles and splashing, was slipping away. By the time we decided to head to Segara, a heavy silence had settled over her. Curled up in the back seat, she mumbled about being "cancelled" from the beach, her chin resting on her knees. The usual soundtrack of beach-day excitement had been replaced by the quiet hum of disappointment.
That's how we ended up at Segara. Now, even though I grew up in Denpasar, these Sanur beaches confuse me. Sanur, Segara, Shindu, Mertasari – they all seem to bleed into one another along the coast, even though they have different names. Beach names, right?
Anyway, after what felt like forever circling for a spot, someone finally pulled out, and we snagged their parking like ninjas. The kids went ballistic – finally, beach time! The only catch was our parking spot was, well, let's just say a good walk from the water.
The first thing that hit us when we finally got there was the crowd. Seriously, shoulder-to-shoulder people everywhere. We weren't sure we'd even snag a sliver of sand to sit on. But we trekked a bit further down, and luckily, found a somewhat calmer spot a little bit far from the entrance.
The tide was way out, which is cool because it meant folks were wading out way further than usual. No waves crashing in this time! My little daredevil, Ina, who usually avoids the water like the plague, was all about running in this time. The water was calm, barely even past her ankles.
Her little brother, Ade, on the other hand? Dude, that kid was in sand heaven from the moment we sat down. Building moats, mountains, the whole works.
Then, of course, the water called to him too. He spent ages splashing around, kicking up a storm and giggling like crazy. Sandcastles forgotten, it was all about the cool, refreshing water.
Thanks for reading about our beach adventure! Catch you next time for more fun in the sun.
