I love 90s time capsules. I remember this film in theatre but don't think I've seen it since then. "Dak dak!" and lasers flying is all I recall. I used to have trouble appreciating comedies that are also another genre, such as this one (comedy and sci-fi). Nowadays I find the combinations juicy, and there are lots of films I fanned on because of it that I can now enjoy more.

When I saw it, I was a bit underwhelmed in 1996. The advertising campaign was huge and independence day sapped me a bit from the alien genre. I appreciate it now that 30 years have passed. Recently saw the film Life and felt the same way.
Totally agreed!
Life? Apparently there have been a lot of films with that name. What year was it done?
It was in theaters when the Matrix was on the silver screen in 1999.
What a year for films that was. And a few years before and after it, of course.
Minority report, the matrix, eyes wide shut, varsity blues. We were spoiled. That and the theater ticket prices were cheap enough my butt was in a cinema seat almost weekly.
