Mars Attacks 1996- A Tim Burton Comedy Gem I Forgot About

YouTube Movies and Shows, Mars Attacks, Tim Burton/ Warner Brothers 1996

What would happen if martians landed on Earth and Jack Nickelson was president? What would the best course of action be?

This film is a classic Tim Burton gem and features a star studded cast. I remember seeing this film in 1996 and being blown away. The advertising for this film was everywhere and it came on the heals of Independence Day.

This nostalgic 1990s piece features performances from Jack Nickelson as the United States President, Pierce Brosnan, Danny Devito and Glenn Close among others.

The film explores what would happen if an extraterrestrial force came to Earth and how people with various dispositions would react to it. The film has extensive footage of 1990s Las Vegas, which was very nostalgic as someone who visited there at that time.

I recommend this film. It's a 1990s time capsule. It is a satire and a comedy that lampoons classic science fiction films and more contemporary ones including Independence Day. Give this film a watch it's worth your time.

I love 90s time capsules. I remember this film in theatre but don't think I've seen it since then. "Dak dak!" and lasers flying is all I recall. I used to have trouble appreciating comedies that are also another genre, such as this one (comedy and sci-fi). Nowadays I find the combinations juicy, and there are lots of films I fanned on because of it that I can now enjoy more.

When I saw it, I was a bit underwhelmed in 1996. The advertising campaign was huge and independence day sapped me a bit from the alien genre. I appreciate it now that 30 years have passed. Recently saw the film Life and felt the same way.

Totally agreed!
Life? Apparently there have been a lot of films with that name. What year was it done?

It was in theaters when the Matrix was on the silver screen in 1999.

What a year for films that was. And a few years before and after it, of course.
