Tssssssshhhht. Voosh. The glass seal was set on the preserv-a-cap, and a thin smile formed on the face of its occupant, Geoffrey Kisser. The interior light of the capsule refracted off of the cue-ball head of one of the world's richest men, causing its lab-coat adorned onlooker to squint for a brief moment. The onlooker, James Crook, ever the observer, as he had been for the majority of his life, carefully poked the touchscreen display off to the left of the pod in order to begin the preservation process. This step could have all been handled by Savila, the cybernetic resident of the silicon, but Geoffrey, like many of Crook's other clients, had insisted the process be started by a human. Someone who could be bought. This is a lesson that both Crook and Kisser understood: everyone has a price. The truth is, as Crook knew, cryostasis and other forms of hibernative technologies were still in their infancy. While short-term trials of resuscitation had proven to be successful, there was no guarantee about the viability of the kind of timescale that these patriotic patrons were looking to preserve themselves for. Kisser's expression betrayed a bliss that those who were less attuned were likely to miss. Crook knew exactly what it was: vulnerability. He'd gained a sense for this in his many years of existence. Odd that money, and its expenditure could buy these people a sense of security. As Kisser's kisser froze into a set, straightened, shape, Crook's carved into an angle. A grin. Ever the salesperson, Crook, now relieved of duty, knew it was time to move on to the next. And so it all begins, let there be light.
