The unexpected emergence of Deepseek has made Shandong popular, not as a praise of Shandong, but rather as a sharp criticism from a group of people defaming Shandong, pushing Shandong to the forefront.

The most noteworthy is a person named "Tom Zhang" (who is also likely a Shandong native who is developing and starting a business outside), who posted a video criticizing some traditional and conservative practices, rules and regulations of Shandong people. I couldn't find this video, so I can only dig out what's behind the smoke of gunpowder from similar articles. What makes these so-called “slanderers” have a special fondness for Shandong?
To sum up, it's just that Shandong people are too conservative and particular about face saving, enthusiastic about taking the civil service exam, and afraid to innovate. Perhaps deeply influenced by Confucianism, with the changes of the times, some things that Shandong people used to be proud of have become constraints on development. The approach of slanderers of Shandong may be too sharp and harsh. Even if the correct approach cannot achieve the same level of " feeling happy when told of one's errors" as a sage, it should at least be like what Chairman Mao said - Correct mistakes if you have made any and guard against them if you have not...

Sometimes it is difficult for a person to discover their own shortcomings and deficiencies. If they cannot discover and correct them in a timely manner, it is easy to encounter problems and repeat the same mistakes. If someone points it out at this point, they should feel lucky. It is not easy to achieve this. Confucius said, “I am glad to have my errors pointed out.” No wonder Confucius was able to become a sage. And even if we ordinary people cannot achieve "being glad", if we can correct it in a timely manner, it will be rare and valuable.

If someone says “you have dust on your face”, the correct response is to first look in the mirror to see if there is really dust on your face. If there is, just wash it off. If not, there's no need to worry. If you find that there is really dust on your face, instead of washing it off, you will argue: this dust was not intentionally added by me, and it is not as black as you said. This approach is a bit annoying. No matter how much dust there is, there will always be some. If one does not humbly accept it, but instead tries to argue and even counterattack those who point out their shortcomings, how can such people make progress?

Hacker translated as hacker, I think it's clever, but I don't know how to translate “people uglifying Shandong”, uglifier? slanderer? defamer?

Anyway, the magnanimous and correct approach is to adopt an attitude of "correcting mistakes if you have made any and guard ing against them if you have not" towards those critical voices. If the criticism is wrong or excessive, just laugh it off. After all, a clean hand wants no washing. Why argue. If the criticism is reasonable, you should humbly accept it, correct it, abandon those outdated customs and even dregs on oneself, boldly innovate and develop, keep up with the pace of the times, only then can we be worthy of ourselves, of the common people of Shandong, and of this country and nation.
