A person's ability to perceive the world is limited, and in order to improve their survival ability, they must read more books, especially good ones. After reading more books, one's thinking will broaden, and their ability to read and solve problems will be unique, which is the only way to stand out. Reading a good book is like listening to a wise man who is enlightening and imparting wisdom to you. Gradually, you will become intelligent, calm, and refined, becoming an excellent person who is beneficial to society.

In the 1980s, I could still see young people reading under streetlights and hear stories of college students hiding in bed and reading with flashlights. But now, there are not many young people who truly enjoy reading. Instead, people who play games, watch videos, chat and brag can be seen everywhere.

In that era where knowledge could change destiny, everyone carried dreams and could change their destiny through reading. The whole society formed a good atmosphere of reading and striving. But when there is injustice in society, the second generation of officials and the second generation of wealthy people seize resources that should belong to ambitious young people through their family backgrounds and various relationships, such as positions, reputations, professional titles, treatment, promotions, etc., and the upward path of scholars is thus cut off. Readers feel disheartened, negative, and decadent, which also affects others.

We believe that injustice exists in any society, and it is only temporary. Young people should bend down, work hard, read more books, improve their skills, and wait for the opportunity to come.

The British philosopher Bacon said: “Studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability. Their chief use for delight, is in privateness and retiring; for ornament, is in discourse; and for ability, is in the judgment and disposition of business.”

The road of life is long and full of unpredictable things, sometimes I even feel hopeless. Until one day, I read a passage by Mo Yan (a Chinese writer and Nobel Prize winner in Literature), and my mind was enlightened:

“People with a kind nature tend to mature late and are influenced by bad guys. Although they have come to understand later, they still remain kind and sincere, constantly searching for their own kind, but in the end, they become the loneliest one.”

Master Hongyi, also known as Li Shutong (1880-1942), was a musician, art educator, and calligrapher. His words about the relationship between people gave me a profound understanding:

“Any relationship, in the end, is just an acquaintance. Those who have a mind will be tired of; those who have no mind are also free. Emotions are voluntary, and there is no need to talk about debt. When an idea arises, we are so far but yet so close; when an idea disappears, we are so close but yet so far.”

At least, reading books, reading the exquisite sentences of two masters, helped me regain my life goals and dreams. A good book is like a medicine that can heal the wounds in your soul and lead you back to the battlefield of life.
Finally, let President-elect Trump's words end this article, which have become my motto:

I am too old to worry about who likes me and who dislikes me, I have more important things to do. If you support me, I support you. If you love me, I love you. If you hate me, I don’t care. Life goes on with or without you.

I am too old to worry about who likes me and who dislikes me, I have more important things to do. If you support me, I support you. If you love me, I love you. If you hate me, I don’t care. Life goes on with or without you.
