Recently, an incident occurred at a vocational college in Zibo City, Shandong Province, which made me seriously consider a question: which is more important, the legal system or life?
A female student in the college experienced a dangerous situation due to respiratory alkalosis, and her roommate called 120 for emergency treatment. Subsequently, the 120 ambulance arrived. However two male medical staff were stopped by two dormitory managers at the entrance of the college girls' apartment while entering for rescue. The reason was that there were clear regulations in the school that boys were not allowed to enter the girls' apartment.
Later, although the medical staff eventually entered the apartment and provided first aid to the girl, it also made people have to ask such a question: Which is more important, the legal system or life?
Boys are not allowed to enter girls' apartments - this is almost a clear rule in all universities in China, aimed at protecting the safety of girls. It can be said that the actions of those two dormitory administrators were not wrong, they were diligent and responsible. Because once a problem arises, they will be held accountable and at least lose their job as administrators. Dormitory administrators are generally older and do not have much cultural knowledge, so it is not easy to find such a job for them.
The system is dead and needs to be implemented without compromise, but when facing life safety, life should be placed in a more important position. The correct approach at this point is to promptly allow medical personnel to enter and provide more convenience for rescue.
Law and life are not opposed, but complementary. The establishment of legal systems is to protect the safety of people's lives and property. If life is threatened or lost, the meaning of the legal system will be lost. The legal system is the cornerstone. If there is no legal system or if there are problems with the implementation of the legal system, society will be in a state of chaos, and "the law of the jungle" will prevail. Will such a society last long?
The legal system protects the safety of life and property, which is uncompromising. However, sometimes in order to better protect life and property, it is necessary to temporarily break certain systems and regulations, because this breaking is for better protection.
We should all have this awareness.
