কবুতর, সৌখিন মানুষদের কাছে কবুতর পালন খুব প্রিয় একটি বিষয়। পাখি জাতের প্রাণী কবুতর অন্যান্য পাখি থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা ধরনের। কারণ,কবুতর গৃহপালিত পাখি, প্রায় হাঁস মুরগির মতোই কিন্তু এর পালন পদ্ধতি একটু ভিন্ন।যাইহোক,আমি মনেকরি কবুতর তার গৃহপালিত স্বভাবের কারণেই সারা বিশ্বে এতো বেশি জনপ্রিয় সেই বহুযুগ আগ থেকে।সহজে পোষ মানা এই প্রাণীটির পালন পদ্ধতিও খুব সহজ হওয়ায় শখের বশে অনেক মানুষই কবুতর পুষতে পছন্দ করেন। এমনও মানুষ আছে যারা তাদের পুরো বাড়িটাই কবুতরের ফার্ম বানিয়ে ফেলে৷

আমাদের দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে কবুতরের রেসিং টুর্নামেন্টের আয়োজন করা হয়।কবুতরের রেসিং টুর্নামেন্ট ব্যাপারটা শুধু তারাই বুঝবেন যারা কবুতর পালন করেন, আর যারা কবুতর পালন করেন না তাদের জন্য এই ব্যাপারটা বুঝতে একটু কষ্টসাধ্য হবে৷ যাইহোক, কবুতরের বেশ কয়েকটি জাত আছে, জাত ভেদে বিভিন্ন কবুতরের বৈশিষ্ট্যও বিভিন্ন রকম৷ স্বাদের কারণে কবুতরের মাংসও ভিষণ জনপ্রিয়। মাংস খেতে হলে অবশ্যই বাচ্চা কবুতর চুজ করতে হবে। কারণ, বাচ্চা কবুতরের মাংস খেতে নরম হয় আর বেশিদিন বয়স্ক কবুতরের মাংস প্রচুর শক্ত হয়।
আমার শোনা কথা, আগেকার দিনে নাকি চিঠি আদান-প্রদানের মাধ্যম হিসেবে কবুতরকে ব্যবহার করা হতো। কি কারণে হতো তার সঠিক যুক্তি আমি এখনও খুজে পাইনি৷ কথিত আছে, দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধেও নাকি বার্তাবাহক হিসেবে কবুতর ব্যবহার হতো। হয়তো এর বুদ্ধিমত্তার কারণেই একপ্রকারের ঢাল হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হতো।

যেহুতু কবুতর নিয়ে লিখছি তাই এখানে আপনাদের সামনে কবুতর সম্পর্কে একটি ছোট্ট তথ্য উপস্থাপন করতে চাই, যেটা একান্তই আমার নিজস্ব অভিজ্ঞতা। শুনুন তবে......
গত মার্চ মাসে বিকেলবেলা আমাদের ছাদে উঠে আমার কবুতরগুলোর মধ্যে একটি নতুন কবুতর লক্ষ্য করেছিলাম। যেটা আমার নয়, অন্য মানুষের। কবুতরটি ছিলো রেসার কবুতর৷ আমি লক্ষ্য করছিলাম কবুতরটি ভীষণ তৃষ্ণার্ত, আমি পানি দেওয়া মাত্রই ঢকঢক করে পানি পান করলো৷তারপর থেকেই কবুতরটি আমার বসায়ই ছিলো।দুই এক দিন পর লক্ষ্য করলাম কবুতরটির পায়ে ট্যাগ পড়ানো, এবং সেখানে ছিলো একটি মোবাইল নম্বর যেটা ছিলো কবুতরটি যিনি পোষেন তার৷

ওই নাম্বারে কল দিয়ে কবুতরটা সম্পর্কে অবগত করেছিলাম এবং কবুতরটি ওনার ঠিকানায় পৌছে দিতে চেয়েছিলাম কিন্তু ওনি বলেছিলেন যে, ওইটা আপনার বাসায় গেছে আপনার বাসায়ই থাকুক। সেই থেকেই কবুতরটা আমার বাসায়ই ছিলো কিন্তু দীর্ঘ আট মাস পর ওনি আবার আমাকে ফোন করে জিজ্ঞেস করছেন যে তার কবুতরটা আমার বাসায় আছে কিনা, মানে তার কবুতরটা আবার তার ঠিকানায় চলে গেছে এজন্য সে আমাকে বিষয়টা অবগত করছেন৷ আমি ছাদে গিয়ে লক্ষ্য করলাম কবুতরটা সত্যি আমার বাসায় নাই, তখন আমি ব্যাপারটা দেখে তাজ্জব হয়ে গিয়েছিলাম।
কারণ, কবুতরটা আমার বাসায় আসা এবং থাকা প্রায় আট মাসের ব্যাপার স্যাপার, তবুও সে তার আগের ঠিকানা ভোলেনি।আরও শুনলে অবাক হবেন, সেই কবুতরের মালিকের বাসা থেকে আমার বাসা দুরত্ব প্রায় ৬০ কি.মি। একবার চিন্তা করুণ, ছোট্ট পাখি জাত এই প্রাণীটির কেমন বিচক্ষণ বুদ্ধিমত্তা,কেমন তাদের স্মরণশক্তি। হয়তো এসব বুদ্ধিমত্তার কারণেই কবুতরকে যুগে যুগে বার্তাবাহক হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হতো।
