The Positive Role of Women in Diplomacy

Women have been participating in diplomacy for several centuries, but their roles have often been overlooked. However, women and girls make up half of the world's population or its population is much more than mans and therefore represent half of its potential as well. In diplomacy, women bring several benefits:

Their leadership styles, expertise, and priorities bring a broader perspective to the issues at hand and the range of outcomes.
Research shows that when women lead, they create laws and policies that are better for ordinary people, the environment, and social cohesion.
Increasing women's participation is essential to achieving their true equality, while gender-based violence hinders their full participation.
Women have been playing a key role in international lawmaking since the drafting and signing of the United Nations Charter in 1945. However, women's representation in the UN General Assembly remains low, with only four women having been elected President.

Similarly, women's representation on the UN Security Council, which is responsible for maintaining international peace and security, is also inadequate. While women are now more likely to be included in Security Council recommendations, this is still not enough.

We must promote the participation of women in diplomacy and recognize their leadership and expertise. For a more inclusive and representative global system, we need to listen to women's voices and give their roles the importance they deserve.
