Hello beautiful people.
We are involved in a rat race!
The term “rat race” first came into use in 1930. The origin of the expression is from laboratory experiments where two rats are trying to outrun each other to get a piece of cheese.
The cheese is a measly reward, yet the rats continue to compete for this small prize. When one refers to the rat race, one envisions harried, unhappy people working long hours for LITTLE PAY and RECOGNITION. Or, an inner motivation to "beat" coworkers or friends to the next promotion, pay raise, or success. This is not to say we shouldn't be ambitious or work hard. While work is necessary, its purpose is to provide the means to enjoy a satisfying life.
We ought to have a work-balanced life! One with a work-life balance works the necessary hours but has time left to enjoy family and friends, pursuing things he or she enjoys. Not just struggling to succeed by all means, especially as a way of peppering people, outdoing others, or fulfilling an insatiable quest for success.
In this generation, the rat race has taken an unprecedented, more intense, and rapid dimension, and one major pressure pump has been largely responsible for this surge of pressure - social media!
Most of us practically now live online, and the social media culture of posting only clean, successful pictures has begun to define lives and worth. So, a clean picture with an iPhone now defines success, Gucci bags and shoes are indices of a successful life. Good English online is a success. Those who can't write proper English are seen as less intelligent. But when has English become a measure of success and intelligence?
People flaunt their kids online, and those without a child feel the pressure
Another lady is always posing beside good cars in an exquisite estate, and that adds to the pressure.
But if we pause for a moment and look deeply or carry out our investigation, we may find out that
That clean guy's clothes may be borrowed.
That Brazilian hair was borrowed.
The shoes were taken on credit.
The car is a neighbor’s car.
The estate is a hotel nearby.
That beautiful background that looks like Dubai was a one-time picture taken on a visit to a senator's house
The fashionista may be a hookup chic. I am not talking about the one that got killed recently. It is not good to speak the truth about the dead.
Here is the one that shook me recently
The one always behind a mic as if he is being invited to speak at different meetings is recording those "talks" in his house, with edited backgrounds on a green screen. People now hold TED talks in their bedrooms. We are here feeling the pressure!!! 😭 We cry God when?
No dey whine yourself, all na scam
A whole lot of things online are fake! Living by social standards is a recipe for depression. Most of us have gotten into this mess without knowing You are doing well in your corner with your small shop but you think the person wearing fine clothes is doing better
You cry silently in your room, you can do yours too😊
You think you are failing. Exactly what we are talking about? It is not always greener on the other side, my dear.
