I would like to see blurt reward for seeding videos. It could be great as a promotion of p2p videos and also for blurt as reward. Bittorrent web protocol gives possibility to exchange some data it can be transaction id and transfer can be a some kind of pool like DEX.

We're integrating Blurt with Peerhub
Yep, P2P seeding has opened a lot of doors for our Peerhub software. It requires way less resources at the server since the load gets distributed (we are huge fans of distributed tech). P2P also provides a better UX since videos can be streamed to more users and at much higher resolutions.
My thoughts on paying seeders though is a bit different. Right now, 99% of the seeders on all Peerhub-powered streaming sites happily do it for free (less the users who manually choose to disable byte sharing), so sending them Blurt coins for every KB they seed is not needed.
Arguments in favor of paying users $BLURT for every KB of a video stream they seed:
Arguments against:
-- Filling blocks with millions of additional transactions to pay thousands of users across hundreds of Peerhub-powered streaming sites is not sustainable and will cause excessive load on node providers
-- Users will just leave their browser tabs open, taxing the chain
-- The Creator of the video will earn less since the rewards pool is being drained many times faster
-- Use the rewards pool for people who contribute content of value
-- Seeding a video does not help the Blurt community, or the Blurt blockchain
-- We want to keep the chain as lightweight and sustainable as possible.
-- An active comment section under a video equates to more people sharing the video, more views of the video, more people (and less trolls) wanting to leave a nice comment on the video, and more earnings for everyone. In my experience, that increases onboarding for all the right reasons.
At least at this point, I have to say no. I do not want to add such a feature when it would financially and physically hurt Blurt, reduce the rewards pool for the content creators, and tax the node operators and site hosts who have to pay for all that increased bandwidth usage (each user's open browser tab(s) equals 1 additional peer(s)).
I think economy should be balanced. It should not multiply coins by doing nothing. It can be even a token inside blurt blockchain. Something similar what hive engine is doing.
Of course there is a lot of people who seeds without benefits, but I see similar way like BTT works. If there is enouth free throuput noone pays, if there is one seed and wants money for transfer than you can pay blurts. I'm not new in p2p and with videos is tge same problem like with torrents, old and unpopular often disappears because of limited access. Also you can think about rectangle of interest. Consumer, host, creator and advertiser. PeerTube will be never real YT killer because of missing the last one. People publish on YT to earn money and on PT for fun, so there will be always more content on YT. If you can create this rectangle on PT + Blurt it might be something huge. For sure it's longer discussion but I have a few ideas if you will be interested
Get paid for watching videos is a great marketing slogan
@agorise What you think:
Seeder-bot will leave a comment under each new video with similar content: Get paid for watching. Winners: see beneficiaries of this comment
The first nine people who watched entire video (or uploaded the most KB within the first hour) will receive rewards from the comment (10% each) through the beneficiary system, remaining 10% will go to server owner
theta tried this and they ended up making it a closed system so the credits you earn can't be cashed out, only "verified creators" could convert to cash
sounds familiar
🥓
I think trying to monetize every little thing just to get people to use a product is kinda slimy. It's like we're desperate or something. That's just my personal opinion of course.
Look at twitter for example. People don't earn anything over there to post content, comment, reply, retweet videos and so on. Twitter became popular thru initial marketing and freedom of speech. It grew due to people sharing links to their favorite content. None of those millions of users have earned 1 cent for doing that for twitter.
Over the years, I have focused our products on UX, and making them as discoverable, and accessible to as many people across a multitude of networks as possible (content syndication). That "reach" is what platforms like Youtube will never offer. They want you in their walled garden, and get the people to freely enslave themselves to it.
okay, at the moment there is no point in discussing such ideas, we will see after a year how it all works. If the project does not finance itself then we can return to this or other ideas. The worst idea would be funding from the Blurt DAO, as it would only worsen the already bad financial situation of this blockchain. DAO might be good for those blockchains that don't have a shared reward pool, but reward pool + DAO is way too inflationary
I've never said that we should pay for watching or use standard reward pool. Nova days 4K is very popular and 8K might be soon. It means that a lot of data should be on storage even if each person will use 20GB on own drive to upload there will be not much videos. I would like to reward that with ex. additional token on in blurt blockchain. Also you have to use quite a lot of bandwidth to support p2p network. Impossible with ex. mobile devices. So I see that more less the same like old torrent trackers worked. Each person has calculated ratio in/out. If difference is too big you can buy additional transfer on blurt. So some people will be receiving token because of positive ratio, same will need to buy because of negative. Of course it's peertube and it's decentralized so there will be blurt users and outside of our community. So it will be still possble to watch video but probably you will have less seeders. That is more less what I'm proposing. Still we should think what kind of data should go to blockchain and what kind of format. Pools, queries, offers? probably not important now to show the idea.
Also I think contents creators should have % because without them seeders will be not able to earn.
at the moment the most important thing is to start the project
Sure. That can be great begining of big project
i think this would work better if the person who posts the video can donate an adjustable amount of blurt, to be distributed to viewers as incentive
that way it doesn't interfere with the "reward-pool"
Paying people to watch your video? That's almost as bad imo as asking viewers all the time to “Please Like, Comment, Subscribe, Share, and Click the bell icon”.
If the Creator is posting content of value, he/she will earn more. Paying people to watch you just seems like a cry for help to me.
yeah, well, "get paid to watch" was the slogan on theta
and people pay to promote vids all the time
might as well make it transparent
i'd certainly be willing to set a bounty for my own vids
paying viewers makes more sense than paying the platform to promote vids
it's pretty tough to cultivate an audience from scratch
especially if you're not commenting on "the current thing"
or something from "pop-culture"
Ideas can make the world a better place 100% :)
You can find me on Discord when you will be ready ;)
Thanx :) I can't stand discord though, I prefer to use distributed tech.
Also, it benefits the community as a whole if we hash out our ideas here in public.
How bout we first start replacing things Like DISCORD, with BLURT... Id rather be burning Blurt with private or public conversations and use it as the resource to pay for Data...
Elements is a Great way to combine BLURT and IDs to setup P2P comms... others are doing it. 🥓
The Matrix federated protocol (ref: Element app) offers many bridges and widgets already. We could make a bridge for Blurt with matrix, activitypub, and quite a few protocols in fact. The tech is already here, we just have to start using it 😊
I always wanted to see Witnesses bringing these things forward in an OPEN Fashion rather than a bunch of servers hidden in closets keeping a few anon nerds rich beyond belief like on hive ... PIVIX up in Canada for example runs a majority of the hive witness list and none of those Douschebags have any actual Internet Tech experience ... except for a few JackAsses who built their own WIX sites.
BLURT is not a BLOG... its a WEB3 Tech that NO ONE is using Properly! Instead, everyone wants the Race to be Over and them declared winners to be Paid! Everyone wants just Free Made Up Money because THAT is what they were told. But MONEY is the very thing this Tech is Destroying! This should be about Identity and how not to get eaten by the Web in all of its Grotesque Glory! It shouldn't be about getting Paid at All!
profit motive is not always the best option
It depends on scale. It is easy to host small project, but all bigger are using dotations to live ex. Wikipedia. P2P gives a lot of possibilites but I dont think that any one is able to host even a small part of YT. Every day size of YT is increasing but number of users is static. In somepoint in P2P world there is too much data that everthing older than few years dies. Solution is to reward tgat content is alive. I think even as a creator i would like to pay for keeping my video alive.
