It's a new year and with it comes new resolutions. This is the first time I am posting in the Sketchbook community with some of my sketches. I am a complete beginner when it comes to drawing and therefore I thought it would be good to make an Art Journal to track my progress.
I am interested to create drawings and art pieces for my blog and therefore I thought I would need to start by learning some of the basics first.
Therefore, I bought this book to get me started and give me some exercises to practice. The book says it takes around a week to get used to drawing and then it becomes easier.
My wife who is a bit more arts and crafty than me was excited about the new hobby that she bought me a couple of gifts to go with my book.
I now have some pencils and a fancy book to do some of the drawings in too. The pencils are of different thicknesses, so I will need to see which works best for me.
The book has different exercises and objects for you to draw. You do them in different stages and it is then much easier. As the shapes and patterns sort of repeat themselves, it should become easier over time I guess.
The first shapes that I was drawing.
It did start to get easier the more you practice which is a captain-obvious thing I guess. I read somewhere that I will require 10,000 hours of practice to be able to draw or become good at something. Not sure what the exact saying is.
When I moved on to some of these kitchen items, it was more interesting to draw. I was quite enjoying drawing the kitchen blender machine.
The knife went a bit wonky at the bottom though.. not sure what happened there, so I did it again.
So for today, I made it as far as the kitchen knife. I generally quite like doodling, so it was also sort of therapeutic to do the drawing too. The next time I am on a conference call and am blanking out, I can draw a kitchen glove or something.
The plan with my art journal will be to continue through the book to improve my sketching. At some point, I need to try and figure out how to digitalise them and I would like to draw some pieces of my own for the Splinterlands art contest and who knows, maybe one day create some NFTs.
Thanks for reading/looking.
