In the province of Negros Oriental, which is my province, rice is harvested manually or with a combine harvester/ mechanical harvester. But manual harvesting and threshing method was higher thanconventional combine harvester sadly bacause due to the lack of financial budget then only few can afford.
I'm glad I can share this with you. This is when I visited my mother's hometown.
The common method for manual threshing is hand beating using an object like baseball bat against the rice head/ paddy, treading, or by holding the crop against a rotating drum with spikes or rasp bars which is what wxactly this farmer is doing in the picture. Hand beating methods are normally used for threshing rice that easily shatters.
Harvesting processes
Reaping - cutting the mature panicles and straw above ground.
Hauling - moving the cut crop to the threshing location.I have done this when I was a teenager. I was like my father's right hand during the time. As I looked back, sometimes I realized how amazing that was.
Threshing - separating the paddy grain from the rest of cut crop.
Cleaning - removing immature, unfilled, non-grain materials.
After threshed, paddy were spread thinly for sun dry right away.
