This time next weekend I will have finished my second 24 hour ultramarathon in November with I hope a great effort at the Fat Ox down in metro Phoenix. Till then I'm getting my mind geared up for the race and putting in those final runs before I rest.
We did our morning 2 miles with frost on the scenery but neither Lulu nor I much cared as we enjoyed the very quiet Sunday morning 🌄.
My quads were still a bit tired when I started my run but an easy first couple of miles helped perk me up before I hit the climb up on Sierry Peaks that would crest out 3 miles later with a good 400 feet of elevation gain.
The sun was bright and the blue sky had just a few light clouds which made the surrounding hills look wonderful, especially Thumb Butte off in the distance.
It was a relief to hit Sierry Peaks again for the 2 miles back home on the now downhill stretch.
A very respectable 7 miles.
An easy 2 miles around Lynx Lake in the afternoon with my sweetie Lulu to wrap up the weekend. I'm feeling good about my prospects for good mileage at the Fat Ox and I hope that I can push myself to go over 80 miles and perhaps even closer to 100 miles - the course is a flat mile (almost) loop and the weather should be great. Unfortunately a lot can happen over those 24 hours and even walking after 20 hours can be a challenge.
