My Actifit Report Card: August 22 2024

A tough 10 km trail run on several Thumb Butte area trails this morning to really give my legs a workout. Fortunately the sky was full of big clouds so the temperature wasn't too hot and I surprised myself (sort of 😁) with a really wonderful run.

I hadn't run these trails in at least 3 years (although I've hiked here a few times since then) but they were familiar territory for me and I had no trouble navigating up and down the rocky hills.
The first mile was a bit slow with a rocky and narrow ascent while my legs loosened up a bit and I got into an easy trail rhythm.
I passed a couple of small groups of hikers so I pretty much ran alone enjoying the rather nive day (overnight rain really helped to keep down the dust and grit).
It was a good opportunity to put in miles with my Hdrop hydration sensor that I got just a few days ago. interesting to see my sweat and electrolyte losses on a hard trail run - actually did well with just under 500 ml sweat loss and very tolerable electrolyte losses as well. With my desire to run ultras it will be another helpful metric in the future.

I had to suffer a tough climb to the high point around 4 miles but after that the trail smoothed out and it was an easy run back to the trailhead at Thumb Butte and 10 km in the books.
Poor Lulu was waiting patiently for me back home so I took her over to Granite Basin for an afternoon hike and dip in the lake.

It was a beautiful hike on the easy Metate Trail that we walk when we visit the Basin.
Lulu got to chase a couple of squirrels as we walked under some dark clouds but the rain held off until we were heading back to the car from the lake.
