The preparation of the Sunday meal usually starts from Saturday afternoon, going to the market and getting the elements and materials and ingredients for preparing the sunday meal as once its early in the morning work begins.
In a typical Nigerian home, The air is filled with the delicious aromas of food being prepared with the aroma from ingredients. The kitchen is a hive of activity, with my little family of working together to prepare the Sunday meal so we can get to church on time for service.
My wife is in charge of the operation, and directs everyone on what activities they should be doing as not too waste time, She is busy chopping vegetables, stirring pots, and tasting sauces. , i help out by setting the table and preparing the drinks/water then arranging the sitting room and dining area, our babu is still a toddler so we let her sleep during these times.
The Sunday meal sometimes is typically a feast, with a variety of dishes to choose from as most time we prepare the food we eat for the whole week which we start eating from on sunday so it takes lots of hours to round up, There is always a soup or stew, such as egusi soup, ogbono soup, or banga soup but today we added pepper soup to it. There is also a variety of starches, such as fufu, Garri, and plantain. And of course, no Sunday meal is complete without meat or fish.
Today, My wife prepared my favorite traditional Nigerian Sunday meal of egusi soup, and fried fish. She starts by cooking the egusi soup. She chops up tomatoes, onions, and peppers, and then fries them in oil. She then adds the egusi seeds and cooks them for a few minutes. Next, she adds the meat or fish, as well as some water or stock. She brings the soup to a boil and then reduces the heat to simmer.
While the soup is simmering,. She then water on the fire to make eba with the garri but i told her not too boarder as I will be eating rice and pepper soup since the weather is clouded and seems like it wants to rain .
Finally, She fries the fish. She coats the fish in flour and then fries it in oil until it is golden brown.
When everything is ready, she serves the food then invites everyone in the family to the table.
We gathers around the table and says a prayer before they begin to eat. Everyone is excited to enjoy the delicious Sunday meal that she has prepared. We tends to eat fast in the morning to meet up with church service and slowly after service to savor the flavors of the food.
The Sunday meal is a time for family to come together and enjoy each other's company. It is also a time to celebrate and thank God for providing and sparing us to see another new week.
