Hi Everyone,
It’s Actifit Report time again. The UK has just had the general election. The Labour Party won by a massive number of seats. This was the expected outcome in terms of seats. As I mentioned in my post ‘UK General Election 2024’, the Labour Party had already won the election before any vote had been cast. The bigger question was about who would be the opposition. In terms of seats it was most likely going to be the Conservative Party, but rising popularity for Reform UK could have pushed the Liberal Democrats ahead of the Conservative Party. As it turned out, Reform was unable to gain a sufficient number of the Conservative’s base to lose them more seats. However, who are the real opposition in the eyes of the public.
As I predicted in my post, the first-past-the-post system has been exposed to poorly represent public support. I thought the key point would have been the few seats Reform UK would win, that was only a part of it. The more striking outcome was the low level of support the Labour Party obtained. They had less than 10 million votes. They obtained more than 10 million votes in both previous elections (2017 and 2019). The winning parties in the 1950s obtained more votes than this Labour Party. On top of that, voter turnout was low. Only 1 in 5 eligible voters voted for Labour. I believe, this is the lowest of any winning party in UK election history. Strong discontent is just around the corner.
My post also predicted that electoral reform would be Reform Party leader Nigel Farage’s next goal. He has already stated that. The mainstream media are already raising the problems of first-past-the-past. I believe a referendum is likely to be sooner rather than later. The push will be for proportional representation. I strongly reject such a system. The fairest system is the Condorcet Preferential Voting System. I will discuss this system in an upcoming post. If I was only given the choice of first-past-the-post and proportional representation, I would choose first-past-the-post. I will explain in an upcoming post.
My Content
I posted twice since my previous report. One post was my seventh anniversary on Hive and the other was the results post for my Sapien Loop quiz.
I’ve had quite a journey on Hive. In my post, I summarise the key topics I covered each year. Each year has been different and mostly unexpected. Year 4 was the darkest and craziest of the seven. That was the Covid-19 year. The great push towards totalitarianism. The lockdowns and restrictions were bad, but they were nothing compared to the drive to get everyone jabbed. Sadly, a huge number of people were injected with this useless and potentially dangerous drug. To this day, people continue to suffer from this tyranny. It is still possible the worst is to come. The jabbed could fall victim to future COVID variants.
The other post was the Sapien Loop quiz results. I was a little disappointed with the turnout and quality of responses. At least, the quiz had a winner. The quiz has been put on hold for the Economics Challenge Series. It will return in September. Sapien Loop 2 should be close to complete by then as well. Exciting times ahead.
That wraps up this Actifit Report and Update. I hope everyone has had a great week and weekend. I hope everyone has an awesome week ahead. Take care all.
