Hey Actifitters,
Like I mentioned in my previous report, we couldn't go to our usual spot for leaf peeping and that most likely means we won't go this year. But the fall foliage peak is such a fleeting moment, I wanted to go somewhere again. So we decided to go to Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve again. Le Chat clearly wasn't interested, so we left her behind.
Did we finally manage to be on time for the sunset? Well, it looked promising from the parking lot.
So the first task was to find good views of the sunset.
From the top of the Boulder garden was probably the best spot.
We then quickly headed to the trailhead. Trailhead might be a bit exaggerated as the entire trail is probably less than a mile.
It starts like any forest in the area, but with fall colors, everything's better! Especially with the golden hour light.
Of course, the idea was to get to the water as fast as possible.
Sunset, reflections and fall colors, that's the combo I was looking for!
We also went up the trail for a good vantage point. Kaia likes to stand on that tree stump.
But the water was calling us again.
The mosquito situation is probably horrible in the summer, but I think I'd still like to live in this house.
That spot at the very end of the lake is my favorite. And the colors!
Before finishing our loop around the forest, a quick photo shoot with Kaia was of course a must. She gave us the perfect pose at the first try!
The second part back on the trail is nice too, but after all these colors, the meadows are not that impressive. I have no idea why they carve that path through it.
And back in the forest towards the entrance/exit.
I didn't remember seeing any deer there before, probably because there's always a lot of foot traffic. But this one didn't seem to care.
It was difficult to leave when the sky was still so fiery behind the boulder garden.
Even better from the top.
But it eventually got dark, and time for us to drive back home. Just like the previous day, we made the right decision with our destination. A shorter walk and closer to home, it was perfect for the limited time we had. Probably the last real fall colors hike for the season. Hopefully we can still find some in our forest.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
