Hey Actifitters,
For once the weather forecast was correct, and we had a great weather yesterday, plenty of sun and pleasant cooler temperatures. I had already planned to visit one of the local parks, and in spite of my usual week end inefficiency, we finally got going sometimes mid-afternoon. We arrived at Kensington Metropark with about 2 hours before the sunset, so I decided to park somewhere, walk for a while, and then drive to other points for the sunset. This was the view near out parking lot. Promising!
We were short on time, but a quick stop at these tables was a must, so Kaia could demonstrate her climbing abilities.
Very short stop though, so we could get back on the trail and reach the lake as soon as possible.
Swans were also having a good day, chilling on the water.
The view from that bridge never disappoints.
And again, back on the trail, because I wanted to reach at least the small boat marina before turning back.
We were already past the time I had decided to turn around, but I remembered this other viewpoint a little further. How good is the view from these benches, right?
Kaia wanted to jump in of course, but we keep hearing about toxic algae in the lake waters, so I didn't let her.
We did have a water break though.
This time, we really needed to turn around, because I didn't want to miss the sunset. But not before one last view and of course the traditional photo near this weird chair. By the way, I promised I would submit a photo to #Aroundtheworld contest next time I went somewhere worthwhile. This park is actually quite similar to the one visited for the photo I submitted last time. I really struggled to choose which photo to submit today but I landed on this next one.
Back to the bridge, the light had started to change, but still beautiful.
That's when I noticed the Moon had joined us.
I even tried to catch its reflection in the lake.
We then had to rush back to the car and drive to one of the beaches for the sunset. Just in time!
It went down really fast.
Already gone! But these colors!!!
There was one last stop I wanted to make at the other boat marina near the main entrance. Sun was down already but I was sure we could still catch some great views and more sky colors there.
Seagulls were having some kind of meeting. Some of them seemed very focused.
Finally the boat launch. This is where I originally wanted to be for the sunset, but I guess it worked out okay.
One guy was still enjoying the last minutes of daylight on his SUP.
But not for long, because it got dark quickly and as bright as the Moon was, it wasn't sufficient.
In spite of a late start, we managed to optimize our time in the park. The walk was not particularly strenuous, but performance was not the point of course. We just wanted to enjoy the beauty Mother Nature offers us. Pure Michigan like the ads say!
As a bonus, I jumped the bar for #poprzeczka, just barely (and after a few more steps in the yard, just to be sure). It was probably too much for Kaia though, she was limping really bad at night. She couldn't even go up the stairs. I felt bad leaving her downstairs, so I carried her all the way up to the bedroom. Not so easy, she's a big girl! We'll see how she is tomorrow.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
