Hey Actifitters,
Yesterday was still a bit rainy, after a very rainy night. It was quite a busy day because I had to finish everything early so we could go to a concert later. So when the rain stopped in the afternoon, Kaia and I rushed to the forest for a quick walk.
We kept the walk short by lack of time, but Kaia still had plenty of time to explore off-leash.
I think she was satisfied.
But clearly the main attraction of the day was a metal concert at the Masonic theater in Detroit. This place is quite iconic in Midtown and it was only the second time I went there for a concert.
Lorna Shore opened the night. I admit I only knew the name and just quickly listened to a few songs the day before. They were very good, very technical musicians, and the brutality of the singer is quite amazing. Way to much metal for my friend though, she clearly wasn't into that kind of music.
Then Mastodon showed up.
They may be getting old and are metal veterans, but damn are they good and it really shows that they enjoy what they do.
Super energetic set with their typical experimental metal, and the lights and pyro were perfect for the show.
Finally Gojira arrived to close the night. Funny to see a French band performing here as headliners. I'm pretty sure they're actually more famous abroad than at home.
As can be expected from them, a very powerful set. They are for sure some extremely talented musicians, and their set was absolutely perfect! The drummer is especially impressive, his solo was just mind-blowing!
The crowd was very active with moshing, headbanging and yelling the whole night but some of the choruses really got them screaming like maniacs!
Well, it had been a while since I went to a metal concert, and that was a really good one. I'm grateful my friend joined even if that wasn't her kind of music. She did admit the sound quality in the Masonic is top notch, which for technical heavy bands like tonight is a huge plus. That made me want to go there again, I'll have to check who's going to play there this year.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
