I went down to the local nine-basket disc golf course and played with some of my new discs. I was mostly interested in seeing how stable they were. It is going to take me some more practice throws to really get a feel for them, but my initial impressions are very favorable.
It is a lot of fun trying out new discs. Many of them gradually start flying better as they get some use.
One of the new discs is a Westside Sword in some kind of two toned plastic. The grip seems to be much better than a clear opaque plastic that I had another Sword disc in. It seems a bet less stable, too, and feels like a disc that will become a nice long-distance flyer. I've got three Sword discs now and might start bagging it again for tournaments. (I like to have a few different molds of a disc that I use in tournaments just in case I lose one.)
Right now, I have a lot of really good twelve speed discs to choice from, the Sword, Tern, and Time-Lapse. I should probably pick one or two of them for my max distance driver slot, but it's tempting to use them all since they fly a bit differently. This fall, I might retire the D4 since it is getting a bit too flippy, and with the windy weather, it might not be a good choice. There is only a limited amount of room in the bag, and it is a difficult choice to pick the discs you want to use.
I think if I had to exclusively throw one particular company, MVP would be easiest for me. Many of the big disc making companies have a wide enough product line to fit my needs, though. In some ways, limiting yourself to one company might make the choices easier.
