I went out to the difficult eighteen-basket disc golf course intending to look for the D3 disc that I lost on Sunday when I was playing with my son. I was searching around looking for it when a friend of mine showed up playing through the course.
It didn't take much to talk me into playing even though I did not have my bag and was intending to take an easy rest day. Since my friend was willing to loan me some discs, I was going to give up my search for the lost D3 disc when I found it right out in plain sight. I was amazed that nobody had spotted it earlier.
I played along with the putter and midrange discs that my friend loaned me and my D3 distance driver. I was struggling a bit with the Buzz midrange that he loaned to me. It was a bit too understable for my liking. It was a nice disc and flew very straight but didn't work well for my forehand approach throws or hyzer backhand throws. I generally don't throw a midrange right at my target.
On hole eight, I stuggled a lot thinking about what disc to throw. The D3 was not a good choice because I would need to power down a lot on it to prevent it from going straight too far and yet I needed to put enough angle and power on it to turn right on a backhand throw.
I thought about using the midrange, but it was so flippy that I wasn't sure it could make it do what I wanted, and I didn't want to lose my friends disc. I ended up throwing the D3 but underpowered it so much that it hyzered out into a large patch of bramble bushes.
We searched for some time but could not find it. I suggested we go ahead and play out the rest of the round, but I was disappointed about losing a disc I had come out to the course to find.
As we played out the round, my friend lost his Tern disc pushing right in the wind after I nearly lost the D2 disc he loaned me with the same problem after throwing first off the tee. We both threw a bit too understable a disc for the conditions.
I really liked the D2 that he loaned me. It felt more understable than my D3 discs. It was supposed to be more stable than a D3, but the plastic had been beat in a lot.
It was a rather dark and prefectly dreary day:
The spot of red in the middle of the picture is my missing D3 disc:
After the round was over, I went back and found my lost D3 disc. It was bured deep in a bramble patch, and I need my disc retriever tool to get it out. My friend went back and found his lost Tern disc too. Unfortunately, he could not find a disc he lost on hole six, though. Hole six is the infamous Christmas tree hole, and many a disc has been lost there.
All together, it was a really fun day, and I got to try out a few new to me discs and catch up with my friend.
