My Actifit Report Card: April 9 2023

in actifit •  2 years ago

I stayed around the house after taking a short walk this morning. It started raining in the afternoon and I did not have a lot to do.

I'm still gently working on my arm, and it feels like the range of motion is improving. It generally is pain free but I still can't lay on my right side for too long. It seems to take a long time to get over shoulder issues.

The next purchase might be some solar panels for the roof. I'm still not sure as yet if it is a good idea at this time. The roof will need to be replaced in another ten to fifteen years, and it costs a lot to remove solar panels to replace the roofing. At that point, there might be better panels to put back up as a replacement. It is always tough to know when the best time to make such an investment is.

Helping with the generation of clean, renuable power feels good. I think that is a primary concern now, and you never know what electricity is going to cost if we don't transition away from increasing scarce fossil fuel resourses.

If the dollar goes down in value, I might not be able to afford new solar panels. Decisions, decisions...

The orchids are still blooming:

I looked at putting solar panels on the roof to sell back to the Grid. I think it was around
$30,000 for a 6 Kw system and the Ontario Government would pay me .40 cents per Kwhr … it looked like it would take 20 years to start to get a good return on my investment … at which time I would need to replace the Solar panels. We also needed to replace the shingles in about 10 years. So we decided to not install them. I would need to look at prices again to see if it’s a better investment today.

It is tough to project out twenty years for a return on investment. I'm not even sure this area will be a good place to live in another twenty years. I would expect that the price of electricity would go down if the government is halfway serious about addressing the climate issue and inflation. It is difficult to figure out a good course of action at this time.

Exactly… are you looking at a grid tied Solar Power system that sells Electricity back to the government ? You sign these 20 year contracts at a certain price ( .20 cents per kwhr) and you still have to pay the electricity bill that keeps increasing …

I think that a grid-tied solar system would make the best choice. Batteries are changing so fast that I'm not sure I want to invest in them. (Besides the ones I've already purchased.) I'm not sure about all the details around contracts to sell the power and what it takes to get started though. I need to talk to some companies that do the installations or do more research if I'm serious about moving forward with installing solar.
