In 2016, a tragic incident occurred at Yellowstone National Park, where a man fell into a hot spring while walking with friends. The victim, identified as Colin Nathaniel Scott, was a 23-year-old from Portland, Oregon, who was visiting the park with his sister and a friend.

On June 7, 2016, Colin and his companions were exploring the park's geothermal features, known for their stunning beauty but also their hidden dangers. The group ventured off the designated boardwalk area, a move that is strongly discouraged due to the unpredictable nature of the geothermal landscape. As they approached a hot spring, Colin slipped and fell into the boiling water, which reached temperatures of over 200 degrees Fahrenheit (about 93 degrees Celsius).

Despite immediate attempts by his sister to rescue him, the extreme heat and acidity of the water proved fatal. Eyewitnesses reported that Colin was unable to escape, and he succumbed to his injuries almost instantly. Search and rescue teams later attempted to recover his body, but the extreme conditions made it impossible.
