When You See Your Virtual Co-Workers for the First Time

With covid we all moved to remote working. Teams like collaborating tools became popular with remote work and even after the covid still some companies remain with hybrid or remote work. The company I work for still allows remote work while managing a hybrid work culture. I have met all my team members, but I have never seen people who we work with in other organizations.

Today we were called for a physical meeting at a particular telecommunication company regarding one of our projects. Eventhough some of us couldn't visit on-site we joined via teams call to the physical meeting while some others were on-site.

That was the very first time I saw the faces of people I frequently spoke with via phone. During my two years of work, this was the first time I joined a camera-on meeting like this with outside organizations. So first they were introduced by our team head who was at the site. Actually, they were very different than their teams or LinkedIn profile pictures.

It it's a strange feeling when you imagine a picture of a person who you hear only the voice, and later you see them as very different from what you have photographed in your mind.

In some instances, I felt I am talking to a total stranger. Remote working has this disadvantage, which makes people away from real-world relationships. It's like we have built virtual personalities and appearances for each other. This is the same thing that happens when you start relationships via dating apps or social media. We are actually working inside a virtual world but when it comes to the real-world things are not the same. Some people can't tolerate this difference and things are not working out.

Very true, but for me I hate physical office work. Waking up early to run to work, knot your tie and the traffic is another thing. The job demand and work load too. With remote job it's minimized.

Very soon we are going into metaverse I believe that one will be more better. The whole workers would be able to talk and discuss just like the physical office but in another world on it own.

For me too, WFH is the best option.

Is he more attractive than a virtual personality? I hope so. Sometimes "great people" are easier to find virtually. Because on social media, for example, I can visit it directly. Then got a response from him.

But there are also many annoying cases

" Sometimes "great people" are easier to find virtually."

I think it depends on the situation.

yes. depend on the situation.
In my case. Usually I look for accounts of cool people through social media. Usually it is the author of the book, whose book I just happened to read.
Even I have known national writers in this way.✨
