Hi Friends,
I have been working from home since the middle of March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it has been surprisingly smooth as far as work flow goes. Given that, my office is reconsidering the need to have a full scale office space and is now talking about hybrid work environments where you do not need to be at the office all the time.
While I am fortunate to have a little workspace in my house, I want more room and to make it much nicer as a workspace is concerned. I have been weighing my options - buy a bigger house, build on my house or make a backyard shed-type office... I am leaning towards building a shed-type office in the backyard. Something like this:
My city allows for a 10 x 12 structure on my property without permits so perhaps that is what I might aim for. I probably need to start a budget, but I guestimate the cost to be around $5,000 - $10,000 to have a nice office structure with good finishes (ie: insulated, drywall, lighting, furniture, etc). I am leaning towards making it nicer so that it has the potential to add value to the home instead of skimping and making it feel cheap.
So yeah, maybe a backyard office is in order - need to get the wife on board now :)
Thanks for coming by,
Brian
