Today I came across a very interesting video of one of the film stars of India, Amitabh Bachchan. Well, he is not the super star but the mega star of the country and known worldwide. The message he gave in the video was something to ponder on. It was about how people across the world pronounce some of our Indian words in a very different way and he emphasized on how the meanings of the word change with different pronunciations, which is very apt. He mentioned about words Like Dharam, Karam, Himalayas, and some more. All these words are pronounced in different ways and they lose the true meaning of them. Dharam becomes Dharma and Karam becomes Karma, which then hold different meaning.
This is very true, but no one ever objects this or brings it to the notice of the person who is saying it. But at the same time when we Indians speak certain words with a different pronunciation then people make fun of us and mock on our way of speaking. I wonder sometimes why this kind of hypocrisy. People in different parts of the world have a certain type of accent and that makes them pronounce words differently but when Indians or any other non-English speaking countries they speak English in foreign lands then mockery is made if the English is not the way it is spoken in that land.
Honestly, I had never thought about this, but then to think of it, yes, it is absolutely correct what he is saying that we Indians have been indoctrinated in to so many of western ways that we ourselves think that we are making mistakes when we are at a larger forum. When actually it is not, it is just our accent which one cannot say is wrong or right. It's nice to see that people with power, like him have the courage to address these issues on a global platform and pointing out these mistakes which are not only wrong pronunciations but also changing the meanings of the word completely.
I see many Indians when they settle in US and UK and other western countries, their accent which they have been using for all their life suddenly changes. They do it purposely because they feel that in that manner they will fit into that society. It is such a shame of giving up something original of yourself and faking up something which you are not a part of. This is the problem, that when one cannot accept themself then how can they expect the world to accept them and then of course mockery will be made. I believe that people need to accept the global diversity and accept each other the way they are.

This is what other Countries do for India and yet we run after them and try to bring their culture in our society. It is shameful.
