How much can you earn as a Witness on Blurt ?

in witness •  2 years ago  (edited)

I am thinking about starting a Witness on Blurt.

It looks like you can earn .338 Blurt every minute ?

Is that correct ?

That’s about 500 Blurt per day.

15,000 Blurt per month.

$ 75 USD per month at the moment ?

Not bad.

What are costs to set up and maintain a Witness Node ?

I think your calculation is wrong. For top20, it's something between 400-500 Blurt per day. I don't remember the exact values. But when considering the cost of the servers, it's not much for witnesses who are not in the top 20. As I remember, If you're in the 30-40 ranks, with the current price, they will barely pay the server cost. So if you ask in terms of profit, I don't think you will get a lot of profit.

These current witnesses who run their nodes are not for money. They are running their servers because they love the platform. Otherwise, if they are looking for profits, I don't think they will be here for a long time by running their nodes.

Ok. Thanks. I was simply adding up all the Blurt I see go by on the Ecosynthesizer.

Thats cool buddy...do you know the procedure to becoming a witness on Blurt?

I have no idea …. But I think @sagarkothari88 or @tekraze could help us … if you are interested in becoming a Blurt Witness.

It looks like @forkyishere also just started a Witness node. Maybe he could help ?

I found this on YouTube: by @zahidsun

It might be out of date though ….

Most 4-8GB 4-core RAM PC, with either a SSD or Hybrid HDD (that has some NAND cache) will do.

Then it's basic git/docker stuff. Understanding Git becomes very useful nowadays. It gives people a new way to follow "development" and how things should work (because one will get used to the way of developing).

Thanks for the mention.

What @sagarkothari88 pointed to has a lot of info for you to start. But this witness thing kind of depends on what skills you already have. So, let us know more, and we might be able to align more with what you may be inquiring about.

If you don't have previous experience it can be harder, but if you are a developer for example, it can be easy because most of the needs are already something you master on the daily life.

The technical part of setting it up should not be too hard even with no experience, there's plenty of help around. What nobody is talking about, the most important and difficult part is getting the witness up into the top ranks and keeping it there.

@offgridlife you should keep this in mind when doing your cost / benefit analysis!

I can upvote you as a witness..

That would be very nice…. I need to figure it all out. What the cost is per month … etc etc ….

I will do a cost / benefit analysis… I think I would earn much more with a 1 Million Blurt power Delegation to @upvu. … more than 1,000 Blurt per day.

I think you forgot to consider the cost of the server maintenance & hours which are invested - e.g. mostly maintenance activities like server upgrade, node goes out of sync, hard-fork changes etc.

Ok… what are monthly costs ? This is what I’d like to know ….

Hopefully, you can give it a try. I left some details about minimal specs as I see them. At least for an internal (not exposed necessarily) witness node.

An important aspect of running a witness to pay attention to the changes on the code and update the node as required.

you would be a very good witness

I just need to also calculate the costs … and time involved to be a Witness. It looks to be a lot more work than I thought. There is always so much work going on behind the scenes.

let me know which path you will choose to take. It is always like this we think that things are done in a certain way instead it takes double the effort

I think I will stick with blogging for now. It looks kind of expensive to be a Witness. I’m not a technical guy… just an amateur iPhone photographer, Artist and YouTube Filmmaker really. That takes up all my spare time.
